The Stolen T-28
The thieves were two seamen from a visiting Canadian vessel. The two culprits decided to walk back to their ship from a night of celebration at the EM club. They spied the T-28 as they passed the VC-8 tie down area and began betting one another that they could fly it. The "winner" managed to get the canopy open, got in and got the engine started. The other guy un-tied him, pulled the chocks and away he went. The OD and sentries slept through the whole thing apparently. While still in a drunken stupor he got the bird to the general vicinity of the runway, gave it full power and smack-ed into the side of the GCA van. The "wanna be" pilot died in the crash. The Canadian ship's mesage the next morning to the VC-8 CO read very simply "sorry about that."
